Udmurtia is a federal republic of Russia. These are some of its men. There are some really sweet portraits of Udmurt men & women here. Turns out they are part of the Moscow youth organization, Marom a community of conservative Judaism.

Nicholas Roerich was a Russian guru—also a painter, philosopher,
scientist, writer, traveler, and public figure. Upon watching hours of
television in Florida I rediscovered via the Discovery channel the works
of Roerich. The paintings were familiar to me. And then I remembered
I had visited to the Nicholas Roerich Museum years ago—the always
amazing Cabinet Magazine hosted a party at the museum in honor of
its Mountains and Fog issue. Lovely Mountain Memories.

Flower powers from Russia. These flowers are from my most favorite collections, Prokudin-Gorskii housed in the Library of Congress archives. The power really lies within the colors the photographs exude. The brightness of leaves, flowers, trees, grasses pull me into the world of the Russian Empire circa 1905. More Russia love here and here. and even more from the Denver Post. (though they crop the best part, the psychedelic border!)

NisN research assignment requested by August Heffner on Varvara Stepanova, Russian constructivist. She was professor of textile design at the Vkhutemas (Higher Technical Artistic Studios) while continuing typography, book design and contributing to the magazine L.E.F. —What a total knock out!  There is this book, this article, and I only wish there was a show on Varvara and not just her husband, Rodchenko. Totally unfair.  Thanks August for the Varvara tip!
