Buffy from Sesame Street, not vampire slayer. Listen to some beautiful music, see some folk fashions. I always loved when TV shows traveled somewhere. The 3rd clip (Buffy’s Morning Song) intros with the Sesame Street gang boarding a plane for Hawaii to visit Buffy and her family. They all sleep in a teepee and Big Bird brings a wagon full of cabbages for Mr. Snffleupagus.

Buffy Sainte-Marie is an Academy Award-winning aboriginal Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, composer, visual artist, pacifist, educator, social activist, and philanthropist. Throughout her career in all of these areas, her work has focused on issues of Native Americans. She appeared on Sesame Street from 1975 to 1982.

There is a lot to learn from community living of the 1960s and 1970s. One of the largest communes of its day was located in a small town in Western Massachusetts. Brotherhood of the Spirit (renamed Renaissance) was started by Michael Metelica and birthed the band — Spirit of the Flesh.

The most inspiring story is how Renaissance revived the town of Turners Falls in 1975 opening several businesses — a 24-hour grocery, a record store, an audio supply center and a stylized pizza parlor. The most successful ventures were the Noble Feast restaurant featuring diversely innovative cuisine, Rocket’s Silver Train which provided luxury-modeled tour buses to rock musicians and the forerunners of the now nationally distributed Silver Screen Design and Renaissance Greeting Cards. Sadly, Michael Metelica became addicted to drugs, bought a Rolls Royce and drove the Rocket’s Silver Train business into the ground.

Can we all just go out to Western Mass, build homes on vacant land, revive a township and start making things?! Please! We have so many great ideas to share!

The Diggers were one of the legendary groups in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury. The Diggers took their name from the original English Diggers who had promulgated a vision of society free from private property, and all forms of buying and selling. The San Francisco Diggers evolved out of two Radical traditions that thrived in the SF Bay Area in the mid-1960s: the bohemian/underground art/theater scene, and the New Left/civil rights/peace movement.
